In September 2023, over 1,000 United Workers Union (UWU) members in South Australia and Western Australia, went on strike against billion dollar producer, Inghams, for a cost-of-living pay rise and better job security.
Members defied company management who assumed the majority migrant, part-time and casual, female workers would not strike.
After 4 days and despite company intimidation tactics – including leaving rotting chicken offal near the picket line, our member’s strength prevailed.
Their solidarity won a 13.14% wage increase over three years, secure jobs, and forced an investigation into management conduct.
